Employee Satisfaction

Client Dilemma

A growing health care provider was looking to expand the number of their clinic locations in order to provide future growth and greater geographical coverage of care for their patients. While this growth plan seemed to be a logical next step fiscally, the Executive Team wanted to make sure that the staff was on board with the plans and had the tools necessary to handle the growth, given their current responsibilities. There was a sense that this expansion could spread this ten-clinic-practice too thin. The practice recently was recognized as one of the “Best Employers” in the area and wanted to make sure everything was in order before they moved ahead in any manner.

BDD’s Action Plan

“The best way to gauge employee satisfaction is simple, ask your employees their opinions,” stated the BDD consultant. With that being said, it was also important to point out the value of utilizing an unbiased third party to conduct the research. “Your employees will provide more candid responses if they understand that the information will be held in the strictest confidence. They are also more likely to open up to someone who is not emotionally attached to the survey or the practice." The consultants recommended an on-line employee satisfaction survey that took the employees less than 10 minutes to complete. In the end, the consultants were able to slice the information by the 10 practice locations to provide more specific insight and allow recommendations for the practice overall and each respective clinic.

End Result

By giving their employees a venue to let their voice be heard, not only did the medical practice gain insight regarding the future direction they should consider, they also allowed their staff to have a say in that direction. “We were amazed that something as simple as an employee satisfaction survey could spur such positive employee morale,” stated the client. “Now going forward with our future plans, we know the areas in which we are strong and those that need some attention. We also know, unequivocally, that when we choose to expand our practice, employees will be behind us every step of the way because they were given the ability to provide their feedback regarding the future of the practice.” Equally important, the employees suggested the tools and staff they would need in order to expand the practice in the way the Executive Team desired.
